APPEARANCE

Large, muscular, and somewhat majestic in appearance, the cane corso's size and strength are his dominating features—and, of course, among the reasons he's a popular choice for watching over his owners and property. "They're these big, beautiful, mastiff-type [breed]," Derse says. A full-grown cane corso female generally weighs 88–99 pounds, while a male cane corso can weigh as much as 110 pounds.

The Cane Corso is a large and muscular dog with a powerful build. Males typically stand between 25 to 27.5 inches tall at the shoulder, while females range from 23.5 to 26 inches. They weigh between 90 to 120 pounds, with females being slightly lighter. Their coat is short, dense, and comes in various colors including black, gray, fawn, red, and brindle. The breed's imposing presence is accentuated by its broad head, strong jaws, and alert, expressive eyes.

TEMPERAMENT

Cane Corsos are known for their intelligence, loyalty, and protective nature. They are deeply devoted to their families and make excellent guardians. Despite their formidable appearance, Cane Corsos are gentle and affectionate with their loved ones, including children. They are naturally wary of strangers, making early socialization crucial to ensure they are well-adjusted and confident in various situations.

TRAINING AND EXERCISE

This breed is highly trainable, thanks to its intelligence and eagerness to please. However, Cane Corsos require consistent, firm, and positive training methods to bring out the best in them. Early obedience training and socialization are essential to prevent behavioral issues and to harness their natural guarding instincts appropriately.

Cane Corsos are active dogs that need regular exercise to maintain their physical and mental well-being. Daily walks, play sessions, and engaging activities like agility or obedience training are ideal for keeping them stimulated and happy. They thrive in homes where they have plenty of space to move around and opportunities for interactive play.
